Offically Unemployed

My last day at work was today. I've worked at Farmer Mac for a little over eight and a half years. In 1996, my goal was to finish my Ph.D. and "leave" Cornell University by June 1st. Well, on May 31st, 1996, I packed my car and headed to Washington D.C. where I was supposed to intern at Farmer Mac for three months, then head to Bangladesh to teach. Needless to say, I never made it to Bangladesh. In August of 1996, I returned to Cornell to defend my dissertation and accepted a full time position at Farmer Mac. Granted I didn’t accept the full-time position until the last day of my internship at 3PM. Now eight and a half years later and I'm finally leaving D.C., not to Bangladesh, but on a trip through the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

(Okay, many of you heard this story, but I'm getting older, so I'm allowed to repeat stories.)
