When did TV become better than Films?

I saw a bunch of movies this summer: "Inception" (not as good as the hype), "Salt" (much better than expected), "Eat, Pray Love" (I like, because I like traveling and learning about the world), "Toy Story 3" (best movie of the summer), "The Kids are All Right" (Annett Benning is such an great actress). The movies were alright but not as good as some of the TV shows I've been watching.

In 2006, I turned off my cable because of my addition to channel surfing. I'd started to find myself spending hours flipping through channels, not really watching anything, just passing time. Instead, now I rent whole series from Netflix. My biggest addictions:

"Modern Family" Hilarious. I often find myself laughing out loud.

"Gossip Girl": Its like "Dallas" for the teen set. Excellent writing that spoofs the class system in American that technically is not supposed to exist in American. Blair is my favorite character. She's so clueless.

British version of "Skins": So good. Too good. Not enough. Why is British TV so superior to American TV anyway? The show's in English, but I watch it with subtitles. MTV is making the American version of the show. I'm sure it will suck. Like the American version of "The Office".

Good New for Me!

Heavy Drinkers Outlive Non-Drinkers
That's the highly unusual conclusion of a new study which suggests that non-drinkers die sooner than heavy drinkers. Moderate drinkers fair the best. Moderate drinking, according to Time, was defined as one to three drinks per day. Still, as odd as it may seem, the old saying, "drink to your health," may be wise after all.
Cheers to that!

Reagan vs. Technology

Who did it? I'm guessing Reagan is responsible for massive poverty rate in America today through his trickle down economics, that never trickled down. The top 5% in this country has gotten a lot richer over the last three decades, gloriously rich. And don't get me wrong, I was a huge fan of Reagan. In my youth, I had no interest in reading or the facts. I was never encouraged to read or learn or educated myself. I was Sarah Palin in my youth, "willfully ignorant".

As for the massive unemployment rate amongst people over the age of 50, I'm guessing technology is responsible. Life is about change theses days. Why hire a jaded 50 year old with antiquated skills when you can hire a 22 year old to do the same job at a third of the salary? Old people's wisdom was once a virtue, now it's synonymous with out of date values and cluelessness.

We Haven’t Hit Bottom Yet
There are more people in poverty now — 43.6 million — than at any time since the government began keeping accurate records. Nearly 15 million Americans are out of work and home foreclosures are expected to surpass one million this year. The Times had a chilling front-page article this week about the increasing fear among jobless workers over 50 that they will never be employed again.
It's crazy times out there right now. If the Bush Administration did its job of regulating the banks, clearly the mortgage crisis would not have been so extreme. The mortgages wouldn't have been made. The bubble wouldn't have occurred. yadda, yadda, yadda. But no, instead the Bush was Administration focused on scaring the country, instructing us to be afraid of terrorist. Joy, joy, joy. Well at least Dick Cheney got rich from the war as a major stockholder in Halliburton. Good for him.
Of the 14.9 million unemployed, more than 2.2 million are 55 or older. Nearly half of them have been unemployed six months or longer, according to the Labor Department. The unemployment rate in the group — 7.3 percent — is at a record, more than double what it was at the beginning of the latest recession.
But who knows? And what do I know. I might be one of these people in a couple of months. My only saving grace is my Ph.D. and knowledge of statistics. My graduate degree is human capital. A six year investment that's paying off.

Myths or truths?

Older workers are less capable of evaluating information, making decisions and problem-solving” or “Older workers are rigid and inflexible and have trouble adapting to change.” Hummm, would I hire an older worker? Never have. I always found it better to higher younger workers. However, if I was unemployed I'd hope someone would hire me.

My Prediction...

U.S. Loses No. 1 to Brazil-China-India Market in Investor Poll

The U.S. has fallen behind emerging markets in Brazil, China and India as the preferred place to invest, a Bloomberg survey shows, though the world’s largest economy still ranks highest of all major developed countries.
That's not my prediction. My prediction is the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries will be the next bubble. It makes perfect sense to invest in these countries today (as it was over the last decade), but the countries are starting to become hot commodities.....just like tech stocks in the late 90's and housing in mid-00's. Invest now, give the BRIC countries a few years, let the bubble create itself, then get out before it pops. These markets are hot! Follow the herd...but not to slaughter.

"Watch Out, Sarah"

Comedians love Christina O'Donnell. Many are saying she has ruined the GOP's chance of capturing the Senate. Less than 50,000 turned out to vote for her. The rest of the GOP seem to be frustrated with the establishment and incumbent. These extreme candidates only mean good news for the Dems, meaning it will be less of a bloodbath come November. Stats: 75% chance the G.O.P. will take the House. 25% the Dems will loose the Senate. Dem are the odds.

Rachel Maddow Gives Bush The Credit He Deserves!

By far the Iraq war has been the biggest defining event in my adult life. And even after all the evidence indicates the war was waged under false pretenses the American people still voted for Bush in 2004.

From 2004 to the end of his term, he side tracked the American news agenda to justified the war. At the same time, government regulators were allowing banks to lend to people who never truly qualified for a mortgage. And today, we have a economy in trouble - 9+ % people unemployed. And yes America turned millions of Iraqis lives into garbage, but that'd life isn't? Too bad for them. Bush and Cheney - through their families' oil holding and ties to Haliburton (military contractor) - are both a lot wealthier now, and really isn't that want counts. The price of oil sky rockets and billions of taxpayer's money was handled over the the military contractors. Why are Americans so stupid?

Most Days too Tired to Blog

Things at work are going well, another person quit (that makes five), but I'm learning a lot. And there always the same issues like any other office job. Which stall to use? Clearly, I never choose the middle. If someone else arrives they'd be right next to me. The first stall is next to the urinals, so that's a non-starter. The last stall is the handicap stall. Yes, it's huge....so I try to go at home before work, but that doesn't always go as planned.

Although running in the morning at 5 am helps, but it also provides complications. One cup of coffee and a five mile run first thing in the morning... Yes, there a few people about Stamford going DAMN that was a huge DOG!

My apartment and accommodations in Stamford are good! My housemates are great. I don't hang out with them much, because I'm always working or hanging out in Newark on the weekends. So be it. Life is good.
