George Washington House

In 1751, when George Washington was 19 years old, he traveled to Barbados with his half-brother Lawrence who was suffering from tuberculosis. George Washington lived 6 weeks in this house before returning to the USA.

His stay in Barbados was the only time he lived outside the USA. His short stay in such a radially different environment, at such a young age, was believed to have profound influences on the development of his character.  Ultimately he would become the first president of the USA.
