Yes, that is splatter on the back wall - yes, that is a "log" to the left of the toilet - yes, that is toilet paper surrounding the hole in the concrete (you many have to expand the photo to see the hole) - yes, there were a lot of toilet like this in Tibet and China. When desperate enough to use such a "toilet" you always faced the dilemma of stepping in "something" while aiming for the "hole" or the other alternative was to not aim for the hole and to contribute to the concentric boundaries around the "hole" (photo was taken by James Colville).
