Today was one of the best days of the tour, much more exciting than the usual tour day in the South Pacific. We walked to the top of Mt. Yasur. It is one of the easiest to accessible active volcano in the world. After a twenty-minute drive to the parking lot near the entrance and a then fifteen-minute walk, we were at the top rim of the volcano looking down into it. I jumped during the first eruption when we reached the top. It was a bit starting. Then I got used to the sound. My thoughts while watching it erupt: “so the middle of the earth is full of this hot lava. How is that possible and why in the center of the earth filled with lava?” Lava is super hot and dangerous. Why couldn’t the earth be filled with rock and soil instead?

The Giant Banyan Tree was large and interesting but that’s about it. It’s a tree.
