Nieuw Amsterdam and Fort

In 1664, the British took over "New Amsterdam" now current day Manhattan, NYC from the Dutch. In exchanged the British, left the area now know as Suriname, and the Dutch renamed am area in Suriname as "New Amsterdam".

Fort New Amsterdam is located at the confluence of the Suriname and Commewijne rivers. The fort was built in 1747, after the French under Cassard directly attacked the plantations instead of Fort Zeelandia and the city of Paramaribo.
