Buildings of Mozambique Island

The island (Ilha de Moçambique) lies off central coast Mozambique in Nampula Province. I flew to Nampula airport from Maputo then took a 2hr private transport to the island.  The island was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991.

Prior to 1898, it was the capital of colonial Portuguese East Africa. With its rich history and sandy beaches. Currently, it one of  the Island of Mozambique's fastest growing tourist destinations. It has a permanent population of approximately 14,000 people and a unique blend of Bantu, Portuguese, and Arabic cultures. Definitely worth a visit.
