Nine Reasons to Live in Vietnam

1. There’s a lot of economic diversity (i.e. can earn significant $, and spend very little)
2. 43 years after the Vietnam War the county’s capitalist economy is booming
3. Extremely hard working and very proud people
4. WiFi is excellent and cheap
5. Religion diversity (7 religions)
6. Good climate except for typhoons
7. Close proximity to excellent scuba diving in the South Pacific
8. Non-begging tourist culture
9. Absolutely amazing food

Three additional comments:

1) Prior to the trip, I watched Ken Burn’s Vietnam War documentary. It was EXCELLENT. It was 20 hours long, but worth the watch. I learned a lot about the war.

2) A tour guide suggested “Chou Behind the Line”. It’s about the damage Agent Orange has done to Vietnamese people. It's also worth watching.

3) It was difficult to comprehend the war between Vietnam and U.S. over communism (and independence) ended 43 short years ago. And the current, capitalist, market-based makes one ponder: what was the war really about? A power struggle between the U.S. and U.S.S.R/China?
