Ahmed Shah Massoud Mausoleum

I’ve heard over the years from people who traveled to Afghanistan in the ‘70’s prior to the wars that Afghanistan was beautiful. Today I got to view the beauty for myself as we drove 150k northeast of Kakul to visit Ahmad Shah Massoud Mausoleum and memorial.

Prior to visiting Afghanistan, I had not familiar with Ahmed Shah Massoud, the lion of the Panjshir. He was an Afgan politician, military commander and a powerful guerilla commander during the resistance against the soviet occupation between 1979 and 1989. His poster can be seen over much of Afghanistan and he’s viewed as a “national hero”.
