It took me a while to become comfortable with this trip’s remoteness (i.e. no internet connectivity for 10 days). Finally around day three, I stopped worrying. I stopped worrying about not responding to emails and texts immediately, not posting and liking pictures on Instagram daily, not monitoring the markets movements, not receiving daily news updates, etc. Nevertheless, there was always the apprehension that when I do reconnect a crisis would have occurred, and I’ve been out of the loop. But mostly, from my personal experience, there never is a crisis. The world continued to spin undramatically while I’m not connected. This rationalization helps to alleviate the apprehension and prevent me from panicking.
Update on 25 July: I’ve returned to a 3G connection, just outside of Lisala. And there was no crisis that occurred while I wasn't connected. A few people texted "where are you?", so people were concerned, but that was about it. The stock market was flat over the 10 days, no significant change.
