Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, Ivory Coast

This Basilica was gorgeous but not what you'd expect in Africa. It's located in Yamoussoukro, the administrative capital of Cote d'Ivoive (Ivory Coast). The basilica was constructed by a prior long-reigning "president" (of course) between 1985 and 1989. The design of the dome and encircling plaza are clearly inspired by the Basilica of Saint Peter in Vatican City although it is not an outright replica.

Crossing into Ivory Coast

We crossed into Ivory Coast. The board patrol invited us to camp on their grounds and we obliged.  We walked 1k to the nearby village. Everybody was extremely welcoming. Local fermented "corn" brew was plentiful.  The alcohol content was low, but the taste was okay, but it was warm.

At the border, hanging in the shop that sold cold beer.

Only one girl knew how to pose. An angel, I'm sure.

The local fermented corn brew.

Everybody tried some, nobody died.

This family asked me to take their picture. They cracked up when I showed it to them.

Same boarding crossing, captured on video.
