Great Zimbabwe

Great Zimbabwe is a stone city near the town of Masvingo. It was the original capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe. Construction of the city began in the 11th century and continued until the 15th century. The edifices were erected by the ancestral Shona. The stone city spans an area of 7.22 square kilometres (1,780 acres) which, at its peak, could have housed up to 18,000 people. It is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The guide told us it was the 5th largest pre-colonial stone complex behind: Angkor Wat, Giza Pyramids, Machu Picchu, and Petra. I have not be able to confirm this though.
