Gorillas Treking, Virunga National Park

With this visit, I completed the gorilla trifecta! Last year I visited the gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda, and today in DRC. The little baby was EVERYTHING! At one point, it sat down in front of me, less than a meter away. She probably would have approached closer, but the guide was deterring her. Another gorilla picking up machete laying in the grass, left by the guide. I panicked for a brief second. I tapped on the guide's should and brought it to his attention, but he told me not to worry. Hence it was all fine. They are such amazing animals, you can feel them looking directly at you.

As expected this visit to the gorillas was different from the other two, since there was only two of us in the group. We had excellent viewing of the baby gorillas playing, but not a great view of the silverback.  Also, since there were only 2 of us, we spent an extra hour trying to get a better view of the silverback.

Virunga National Park, where we viewed the gorillas, is one of Africa’s oldest national park and a UNESCO world heritage site due to its immense biodiversity.
